Shakespeare’s journey: Pall Mall to Stratford

The statue on the left can be seen at the far end of Shakespeare’s Garden in Stratford-upon-Avon. partly hidden by the surrounding trees. But it used to be in Pall Mall decorating the Shakespeare Gallery established by James Boydell in the 1790s to house paintings by great artists of scenes from Shakespeare. Eventually Boydell went bankrupt and the building was sold in a lottery.
