The Loch Ness Monster – guess who started it

by Vic Keegan

All you need to know about the Loch Ness minster (brief poem)

It was down to the holiness of St Columba
To wake Scotland from a time-warped slumber
He not only gave God to the people
Complete with bell, book and steeple
But in 565 he went to Loch Ness
The myth of a monster so to address
Which, say the scribes, he dealt with “severely”
And banished the monster, or very nearly
For myths don’t so easily go away
Especially when tourists are willing to pay
For the chance of a glimpse of Nessie – or not
For which they are willing to part with a lot
We should praise St Columba for all to see
The patron saint of the tourist industry
