At Cardinal Place in Westminster I sadly found
A woman with her face to the ground
She was scraping up bits of fluff
And if that wasn’t enough
She put them in a raised flower bed nearby
But there was no obvious reason why.
But when I realised it nearly made me cry
In view of her persistence
She may be a rough sleeper needing assistance
But looking closer, the bits of fluff were leaving trails
They were actually Nature’s great recyclers: Snails
She was a successful exec from America’s LA
Who was rescuing the snails, on her way to work
Because of a genuine worry
That these vital preservers of the ecosystem
Might be crushed by commuters in a hurry
Hail, snail lady from LA
You are the Johny Appleseed of your day
